If you have a spot in the garden that stays reasonably damp, this moody Ligularia dentata ‘Desdemona’ is a striking addition, with large garish orangey-yellow flowers from mid-summer, which I sometimes chop off if they clash with other things! It’s easy to grow, but watch out for slugs and snails when it first emerges in the sping – they think it supremely tasty. Goes well (minus flowers) with this ground-hugging pale pink Persicaria affinis ‘Superba’.
